SELMA – A brief high speed chase ended when the fleeing driver crashed. Around 6:45pm Saturday, a Johnston County Sheriff’s Office SAFE Team deputy attempted to stop a motorist for reportedly speeding 91 mph westbound on US Highway 70 near Pine Level.
Deputies said the driver refused to pull over. The chase reached speeds in excess of 100 mph. The driver attempted to exit from US 70 onto Buffalo Road but lost control of his speeding car on the westbound exit ramp, traveled down an embankment, and crashed.
The driver was taken into custody without further incident. He is facing multiple traffic charges. His name was not immediately released.
The State Highway Patrol investigated the traffic accident. No law enforcement vehicles were damaged or involved in the collision.
Glad no LEO’s or innocent people were injured in this chase. As far as the driver goes, he should have hit a real thick pine tree!
Stiffer penalties for ppl that does this ! Put innocent people lives at risk !
