SAMPSON COUNTY – A 77 year-old man died in a single vehicle accident in Sampson County. The Highway Patrol said Franklin Lee Harvey of Dudley, NC was operating a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup on Faison Highway (NC 403) when the truck ran off the roadway, just before 2:00pm Wednesday. The truck overturned and submerged in a creek.
A passenger, Garris Ward, 54, of Dudley, was able to exit the truck without injury.
Sampson and Cumberland County water rescue crews were able to recover the driver from the submerged vehicle. A larger wrecker was used to remove the truck from the creek.
The Highway Patrol said speed is not believed to be a contributing factor.
Neither the driver or passenger were wearing seat belts.
