Driver Who Injured 4 People In Head-On Crash With Stolen Van Indicted

A man troopers said was involved in a hit and run head-on collision with a stolen vehicle earlier this year has been indicted by a Johnston County Grand Jury.

On June 5th, Charles David Crone, 36, of Drew Drive, Garner, a Cleveland community address, was reportedly driving a stolen Ford van while under the influence when he collided head on with an SUV on Highway 50 near Highway 42 in western Johnston County.

After the violent crash, Crone was somehow able to flee from the scene in his damaged vehicle.  A short time later he was spotted by state troopers and fled on foot but was later apprehended in the parking lot of a nearby convenience store.

Crone was indicted on 10 charges including driving while impaired, four counts of hit and run for each victim in the other vehicle, four counts of felony serious injury by a vehicle, and one count of larceny of a motor vehicle.   Photos by John Payne
