Dunn Man Killed In Head-On Crash Near Newton Grove

NEWTON GROVE, N.C. – A Dunn man was killed and another driver seriously injured Tuesday morning in a head-on collision on U.S. 13 east of Newton Grove.

The N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to the two-vehicle crash at approximately 7:30 a.m..

Troopers said a 2006 Dodge pickup was traveling westbound on U.S. 13 when it crossed left of center.

A 1994 Chevrolet pickup driven eastbound by Johnny L. Green, 65, of Dunn reportedly swerved left in an attempt to avoid the oncoming vehicle.

The two pickups collided head-on near the center of the roadway.

Green was found unresponsive at the scene and died from his injuries.

The driver of the Dodge was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville with serious injuries.

Troopers said the Dodge driver was wearing a seat belt. Green was not restrained.

Speeding was not believed to be a contributing factor. Possible impairment remains under investigation.

The crash is being investigated by the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
