Elison Jude Smith Becomes First Baby Of The Year At Smithfield Hospital

SMITHFIELD – Morgan Adams and Daniel Smith of Dunn have a reason to celebrate that’s bigger than any New Year’s resolution—the arrival of the first baby of 2026 at UNC Health Johnston in Smithfield.

Elison Jude Smith made his debut at 12:34 a.m. on Jan. 1, weighing 6 pounds, 5 ounces. As the very first baby born at the Smithfield hospital this year, he’s already starting 2026 with a special distinction.

“He was a few days early,” said Morgan, “but it’s really special that he was born on New Year’s Day.”

The proud parents are looking forward to a year full of firsts with their little one, starting with the unforgettable memory of New Year’s Day morning spent welcoming their son into the world.
