The Riverwood Middle School Envirothon Team, called ‘Colorful Turtles’, recently placed third out of 30 middle school teams at a regional qualifying Area IV Envirothon held in Nash County.  The team will now advance to the State Envirothon competition and represent Johnston County’s only middle school at the event.

Two high school teams from West Johnston High School will also advance to the State Envirothon on April 29-30 to represent Johnston County in the high school division. vent.

The Envirothon is a team challenge where students compete in their knowledge of environmental science topics such as soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatics and current issues and is sponsored by the North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.   Winning teams are eligible to receive cash prizes and scholarships.

Next March, the Johnston Soil and Water Conservation District will host the 2017 regional qualifying competition at the Johnston County Agricultural Center in Smithfield.
