Family Numbers Win Johnston County Man A $2 Million Powerball Prize

CLAYTON – Daryl Steinhoff of Clayton put together some family numbers for a Powerball ticket in Monday’s drawing and they won him a $2 million prize.
“The next day I got an email saying that I won something,” recalled Steinhoff.
After checking the alert, Steinhoff realized that he won a $2 million prize and shared the news with his loved ones.
“I was ecstatic and in disbelief,” shared Steinhoff. “I called my daughter and girlfriend.”
Steinhoff bought his lucky $3 ticket using Online Play. His Power Play ticket matched the numbers on all five white balls in the drawing, winning one of the $2 million prizes won nationwide.
Steinhoff arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday to claim his winnings and after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $1,435,001.
He plans to use some of his winnings to find a new home.
Saturday’s Powerball jackpot stands at a $1.7 billion annuity or $770.3 million in cash and ranks as third largest ever in U.S. lottery history. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
Powerball is one of six draw games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
