Four Johnston County fire departments responded to a large fire Tuesday afternoon containing the blaze before it reached a residence.
Just before 1:00 pm, a large barn caught fire in the 1000 block of Strickland’s Crossroads Road, outside of Four Oaks. Initial reports indicate a person was burning yard debris when the flames spread to a barn and then two vehicles.
Fire crews prevented the fire from reaching the victims home but the barn and cars were a total loss.
One person was transported to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. A second person was treated at the scene by paramedics but was not transported.
