BENSON – A singlewide mobile home fire sparked a grass fire beside Interstate 40.
Around 2:59pm Thursday, the Johnston County 911 Center received multiple calls reporting a mobile home on fire at 11395 NC 50 South, in the Meadow community. Callers also reported a grass fire along the eastbound side of I-40 just west of Eldridge Road.

Johnston County Fire Marshal Ryan Parker said crews determined the mobile home fire had ignited dry vegetation in the back yard, which bordered I-40, and the grass fire spread towards the interstate. The fire was contained within 45 minutes.
Officials said the mobile home was used for storage. The fire stated inside the structure but the source has not be determined. Foul play is not suspected.
