“Everything is destroyed,” Pikeville Police Chief Craig Edwins said Friday morning surveying the damage to the Pikeville Town Hall. “The town is unable to operate at this time.”
Around 5:00am, Chief Edwins received a phone call saying, “The Town Hall is on fire!”
Firefighters from Pikeville, Fremont and Nahunta rushed to the town hall building on W. School Street but could not save the building.
Flames were already coming through the roof when crews arrived on the scene. The cause of the fire is unknown. An SBI arson investigator responded to the scene to assist Wayne County fire investigators determine the cause.
