CLAYTON – A weekend fire damaged a home on Coffee Tree Lane in Flowers Plantation. The fire was reported at 3:18pm Sunday in an almost new home near the intersection of Buffalo Road and NC Highway 42.
A 10 year-old reportedly called 911 reporting his home was on fire saying the family smelled smoke then saw sparks coming from the attic. The homeowner said they had been living at the home about seven months.
North Side Archer Lodge Station, North Side Thanksgiving Station and Clayton firefighters were on the scene shortly after the call came in. Johnston County EMS stood by at the scene.
Neighbors came to the aid of the family, who has a 1 year old child. “We are a close neighborhood,” one resident reported, on his way to check on the family.
The American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance.
The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating the cause of the blaze.
It’s good they got it fast. Those houses are so close together that if one gets fully involved, two more will follow.
