A good Samaritan is being credited with helping catch a suspected drunk driver.
Around 3 pm on Monday, a concerned citizen called 911 about a possible drunk driver in Clayton. He followed the car a short distance and was met by police officers at a shopping center parking lot on the corner of Lombard and Second Streets in Downtown Clayton.
Officers stopped the driver, 49-year-old Jonathon James Peterson of Clayton, and arrested him on driving while impaired charges.
Officers learned Peterson was also wanted in Missouri and Pennsylvania for failure to appear for DWI charges in each of those states. He was brought without incident to the Johnston County Jail where it’s expected that he will be extradited to Missouri to face charges there.
“The Clayton Police Department always appreciates information from the community and encourages everyone to call 911 when they see suspicious activity so officers can respond immediately,” according to Town of Clayton spokesperson Stacy Beard.
