Hit-And-Run Damages County Utility Equipment On Christmas Day

SMITHFIELD — Johnston County deputies are searching for a hit-and-run vehicle after public utilities equipment was damaged early Christmas Day.

The incident occurred December 25 near the intersection of Gulf Stream Court and Citation Lane, off Swift Creek Road.

Deputies believe a Jeep Wrangler was being driven recklessly in a muddy field when it struck equipment owned by Johnston County Public Utilities, causing an estimated $15,000 in damage.

Several pieces of the vehicle were left behind at the scene. Public utilities crews responded to make emergency repairs.
