A house fire this week in Smithfield is now being treated as possible arson.
Smithfield Police, the Smithfield Fire Department and the Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office are jointly investigating the blaze reported early Monday morning at 829 South 5th Street.
Police said Wednesday the fire caused an estimated $5,000 in damage to the home.
The fire is considered suspicious in nature. No injuries were reported.
