JOHNSTON COUNTY – Eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 near the 316 mile marker in Johnston County were shut down Sunday night as a result of a two car accident.
The collision happened around 11:00pm in the westbound lanes. A passenger car traveling westbound rear-ended another westbound vehicle, causing one car to overturn through the median and come to rest on its roof in the middle of the eastbound lanes.
Both drivers sustained injuries, one with potential serious injuries.
Other eastbound drivers were able to avoid striking the overturned vehicle in the roadway but both eastbound lanes had to be closed until the scene could be cleared.
