A fire in the Wayne County Jail on Thursday caused a brief evacuation but only minor damage.
The fire was reported on the second floor of the detention facility on a mattress inside a cell. The fire was quickly contained with a fire extinguisher however smoke quickly filled the building.
The Goldsboro Fire Department ventilated the building and inmates were returned to their cells within two hours.
Authorities said the 23 year-old Cody Wayne Foy was the inmate in the cell when the fire started. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that charges are pending.
Goldsboro Police assisted Wayne County deputies with security at the detention center during the incident.
