Inmate’s Bond Increased After Alleged Assault On Detention Officer

SMITHFIELD — A Four Oaks man already jailed on methamphetamine trafficking charges is facing another felony after allegedly spitting in a detention officer’s eye.

Quin Marton Chestnut, 33, had been held at the Johnston County Detention Center since his Sept. 17 arrest in connection with a narcotics investigation in Four Oaks.

Four days later, on Sept. 21, authorities said Chestnut began hitting his head against a wall inside his jail cell.

A detention officer entered the cell, and Chestnut allegedly spit in the officer’s eye.

Chestnut was subsequently charged with felony malicious conduct by a prisoner.

His bond, previously set at $50,000 on the drug charges, was increased by another $75,000, bringing his total bond to $125,000.

Chestnut was among several people arrested Sept. 17 after the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division and Four Oaks Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of George Street.

Investigators reported seizing approximately 196 grams of suspected liquid methamphetamine and numerous items of drug paraphernalia during that search.

Chestnut was charged in that case with felony methamphetamine trafficking and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
