MICRO – Interstate 95 in Johnston County has reopened following a serious collision involving two tractor trailers.
The accident happened just before 5:00pm Tuesday in the southbound lanes near the Pittman Road exit, at the 101 mile marker, in Micro.
An 18-wheeler hauling empty plastic bottles had stopped for traffic ahead when it was rear-ended by another southbound semi hauling lumber.
The collision ripped open the cab of the semi, ejecting the driver. The driver was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the stopped 18-wheeler was not injured.
It took crews several hours to clean up the debris. One southbound lane was initially reopened before both lanes reopened Tuesday night.
The State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
