JOHNSTON COUNTY – Since January 2, the Johnston County ABC Board has been without a General Manager following the resignation of Chad Stewart, who served for three years. The Board immediately initiated a comprehensive search for a new General Manager. During the two month absence of a general manager, the board relied on financial officer Shannon Capps.
This week, the Board announce the promotion and appointment of Shannon Capps to the position of General Manager of the Johnston County ABC. Shannon began her career at ABC as a store clerk and has progressively advanced to the position of General Manager. Previously, she held the position of Management and Bookkeeping for a local grocery store.
The General Manager oversees nine ABC stores with 60 employees.
I still say it’s way-past-time for the State of NC and her 100 counties to get out of the whiskey business and let it go to private enterprise. The argument of reducing drunk driving has fallen by the wayside. The MOST dangerous risk on the road today is cell phones…
It’s time to get rid of the useless and expensive ABC boards and let free enterprise sell alcohol like it’s done in most states. Taxes will still be collected and think about all the money that will be saved by eliminating these positions and selling those prime properties where ABC stores ore located.
I am glad the State of North Carolina still controls the hard liquor business. I am a former policeman/prison employee and probation/worker. I saw what alcohol does to people/families and society. Alcohol sales taxes WILL NEVER bring in the money that is expended on law enforcement/hospitals/rehab/social services/loss of productivity/court etc. Is estimated that for every $1.00 brought in in taxes $9.00 goes out for the above. It is not a money maker.
