A month long investigation by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan police has led to the arrest of a 49 year-old woman suspected of defrauding victims online.
A Michigan resident recently went online to purchase a three-wheel motorcycle and noticed one for sale for $11,000. They wired the money for the motorcycle but never received the item.
Authorities tracked the payment to a bank in Texas. The money was then wired to Johnston County.
Theresa Ann Gales of Broadmoor Way, Clayton was arrested Sundayand charged with multiple counts of obtaining property by false pretenses and conspiracy. She was jailed under a $150,000 bond.
Sheriff’s detectives have not ruled out there may be other victims who could have been defrauded by Gales. During her arrest officers seized numerous uncashed checks in her possession.
Additional charges have not been ruled out.
