A 43 year-old man has been charged with child abuse. On May 6th around 8:30pm, Johnston County deputies responded to a welfare check on AJ Lane near Selma. Officers arrived and located two juvenile children, age 11 and 13, at the home.
Authorities said the 13 year-old had been beaten with a leather strap. The child had allegedly been struck three or four times in the arm leaving bruises and welts from three to eight inches. The child had also been struck in the penis.
Marvin Javier Vasquez of Lead Mine Road, Raleigh was charged with misdemeanor child abuse. He was released on a $1,000 bond.
The Johnston County Department of Social Services is assisting the sheriff’s office with the investigation.
