Smithfield Police have stepped up patrols and are searching for the driver of an SUV after a man reportedly exposed himself to two sisters at a bus stop Wednesday afternoon. Police would also like to talk to any possible witnesses who saw the incident.
Around 2:30pm, the sisters, ages 15 and 17, got off their school bus on W. Market Street (US 70) in West Smithfield. Immediately after the bus pulled away, the driver of a light color Chevy Tahoe stopped and asked the girls for directions.
The man then opened the door to the SUV and exposed himself. The suspect then fled. Police Chief Keith Powell said the man did not attempt to touch the children, who immediately reported the incident.
Chief Powell said the suspect is a white male, 28 to 30 years of age, with short blonde hair.
Anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to call Smithfield Police at 919-934-2121 or the Smithfield Police Tip Line at 919-989-8835. Callers may remain anonymous.
