A Johnston County Grand Jury has indicted a Wake County man for a January 2019 armed robbery and car chase. Brian Lamonte Clark, 22, of Raleigh is accused of robbing an AT&T retail store at 1237 N. Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield on the night of January 3rd, stealing 13 iPhones. Police said Clark was armed with a silver handgun and threatened and endangered two employees with the weapon.
After the holdup, a Johnston County deputy spotted Clark’s vehicle speeding on the Highway 70 Clayton Bypass and attempted to stop him. Clark reportedly failed to stop and fled onto Highway 42 West before he jumped and ran away on foot.
This month, a Grand Jury sitting in Smithfield indicted Clark on a True Bill of Indictment for robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony larceny, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, and two counts of kidnapping.
At the time of the January holdup, Clark was out of jail on bond awaiting trial for an AT&T store robbery on Nov. 12, 2018 on Capital Boulevard in North Raleigh. Clark was allegedly identified as a suspect in the Wake County robbery after entering the business with a box to fill with stolen goods. However, the box was mistakenly left behind. The box reportedly contained an old shipping label with his address.
And one day before the Smithfield AT&T robbery, Clark was arrested by RDU Airport Police for possession of marijuana and larceny of fuel.
