JOHNSTON COUNTY – A 35 year-old man is facing a long list of charges after leading law enforcement officers on a brief chase. Around 7:00pm Thursday, Johnston County deputies were dispatched to a domestic-related trespassing call on Royal Oak Lane off Cornwallis Road.
As deputies arrived on the scene, the suspect fled from the driveway in a black Nissan Maxima. Officers attempted to stop the Maxima on Cornwallis Road but the driver refused to stop.
The high speed chase continued onto Cleveland Road. As the suspect attempted to turn from Cleveland Road onto Commerce Parkway, near Highway 42, he struck an innocent motorist stopped at the intersection.
Moments later, while traveling on Commerce Parkway, the suspect jumped from his moving vehicle, only to be run over by his car. Despite being injured, he fled on foot and briefly eluded law enforcement officers.
Minutes later, a pair of good citizens alerted deputies the suspect was standing in the McDonald’s parking lot. Officers located the suspect, only for him to reportedly flee on foot once again. This time, he was detained at the I-40 / NC 42 intersection near the off-ramp. He was transported to a local hospital, reportedly for treatment of a broken leg.
Ramone Mondell Anderson, age 35, of Durham, NC was released from the hospital Friday morning and booked into the Johnston County Jail.
Anderson was charged with multiple offenses including fleeing to elude arrest, hit and run, failure to wear a seat belt, driving left of center, reckless driving, speeding, resisting a public officer, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was also served with several outstanding warrants, including communicating threats, domestic assault on a female, assault by pointing a gun, conspiracy to commit felony larceny, and injury to personal property.
Anderson was held without bond on the domestic-related charges. He was given an additional $77,500 bond on the charges stemming from the pursuit.
A 45 caliber handgun and ammunition reportedly found in the Nissan was seized. The Nissan was seized under the Run & Done State Law. The State Highway Patrol investigated the hit and run accident with the innocent motorist.
Sounds like an outstanding citizen. Glad he was apprehended before hurting anyone.
Good another criminal off the streets! Let’s hope he stays in prison for a long time.
Will the victim who was run over (Ramone Mondell Anderson) press charges against the driver (Ramone Mondell Anderson)?
But seriously I wish the driver would pay the victim’s medical expenses. I suspect tax payers will be covering that once again.
How can he think he can get away from police when he can’t even get away from himself?
Tell poo bear hey while your in there.what a disgrace
But I’m sure he’s probably in the right for some peoples eyes
He should have gone 1SPLAT when he ran himself over!
