Hopes to replace her current boss
A long-time member of the Harnett County District Attorney’s office has thrown her hat into the ring to replace retiring District Attorney Vernon Stewart, of North Carolina’s 11A prosecutorial district.
Suzanne Matthews has announced her intentions to seek the office Stewart will vacate at the end of his term next year.
“I have been an assistant district attorney for 13 years and have handled the prosecution of all manner of criminal offenses,” Matthews said. “I have had the pleasure of working for Mr. Stewart for the last nine years, primarily in the Harnett County office.”
Matthews earned her undergraduate degree from Campbell University before attending Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey. She returned to North Carolina, working in private practice in Raleigh for approximately two years before joining the district attorney’s office in April of 2007.
Matthews, who lives in Angier with her husband and daughter, said she is fully committed to serving as a prosecutor for the people in Harnett and Lee counties which are included in District 11A.
“Prosecution is truly my passion,” she said. “It is the reason I went to law school, and I consider it a blessing to be able to live out my passion daily. For the past 12 years it has been my privilege to represent the ctate of North Carolina in the courtroom. It would be my honor to serve with the citizens of Harnett and Lee counties as district attorney.”
