Mother Charged With Child Abduction, Another Person With Extortion

CLAYTON – A Johnston County mother has been charged with abducting her own child. Callie Victoria Brinson, 32, of Liberty Lane, Clayton was arrested Nov. 12 by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said they received a call from a grandfather, who had custody of his grandchildren. He allowed his 2 year-old grandchild to leave with Brinson, the child’s mother on November 5. Brinson did not return the child on the date promised and she reportedly did not have legal custody.

While the grandfather was attempting to locate the missing 2 year-old, authorities allege Antonio Deshawn Hinton, 42, of E. Hinton Street, Clayton, a friend of Brinson, made contact with the grandfather through text messages. Hinton reportedly demanded $160 for information on the whereabouts of the missing child.

Callie Brinson was charged with felony child abduction, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and felony conspiracy. She was given a $75,000 secured bond.

Antonio Hinton was charged with felony extortion and felony conspiracy. His bail was set at $50,000.

The child was found safe and returned to the custody of their grandfather.
