Motorcyclist And Passenger Seriously Injured After Collision With Vehicle
SMITHFIELD – Two people sustained serious injuries after their motorcycle collided with a vehicle. The collision occurred at 5:04 p.m. Sunday, July 20 on Market Street at Third Street in Downtown Smithfield.
Smithfield Police said a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Joseph Richard Stroud of Mount Olive, was traveling eastbound on Market Street.
A witness reported that Stroud ran through a red light and collided with the front left corner of a 2005 Toyota entering the intersection on Third Street.
Stroud and his passenger, Mikayla Kahryn Kremer of Goldsboro, were both ejected. Kremer was pinned underneath the Toyota, police reported.
They were both rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, Charne Roman of Zebulon, stopped and remained at the scene. He was not injured.
Roman told police his light turned green, and as his Toyota was in the middle of the intersection, he noticed the motorcycle not slowing down and collide with his vehicle.
Due to the severity of the collision, both the Toyota and motorcycle had to be towed from the scene.
