Update: Multiple Fire Departments Contain Large Wood Debris Blaze

UPDATE: The fire was brought under control around 8:00pm Tuesday after burning 7-1/2 hours.

MEADOW – Multiple fire departments are battling a large wood debris fire in the Meadow community in southern Johnston County. The fire was reported around 12:30pm Tuesday at a wood chipping facility in the 1600 block of Barefoot Road.

Approximately 20 fire departments from Johnston, Sampson, Wake, and Wayne counties responded. In additional, Johnston County Emergency Management and the NC Forestry Service are on the scene. A Forestry Service helicopter dropped water on the fire for several hours.

Barefoot Road has been closed near the fire scene due to the large number of fire trucks. The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with a traffic detour in the area.

Fire departments that have responded include: Meadow, Four Oaks, Strickland’s Crossroads, West Johnston, Newton Grove, Kenly, Selma, Garner, 50-210, Elevation, Cleveland, Blackman’s Crossroads, Bentonville, Benson, Brogden, Antioch, Clayton, Micro, Pine Level and Nahunta.

No injuries have been reported.
