    Angela Hill Whitfield

    March 9th, 1955 – February 21st, 2024

Angela Hill Whitfield passed away surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, February 21st, 2024. A native of Johnston County, Angie grew up in Smithfield, North Carolina and was the oldest daughter of the late Keith and Jan Hill. She grew up immersed in agriculture on a tobacco farm and later enjoyed helping her parents on their peach and strawberry farm.

Angie graduated from Smithfield Selma High School in 1973.  She furthered her education and earned her bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University, graduating in 1977, and proceeded to East Carolina University where she achieved a master’s degree in special education in 1978. Upon graduating Angie began teaching Special Education at Four Oaks Elementary. After retiring from the Johnston County Public School system, she carried her love of educating to Horry County Schools in South Carolina, from where she also retired.

One of Angie’s passions in life was educating children. She enjoyed tutoring in her retirement both for the school system and at the Learning Hub of her daughter’s dance studio, Artistry In Motion Performing Arts Center.  She loved spending time working at the front desk and was the ultimate dance mom. Angie loved girl’s trips with her family, dinner dates with her friends, and spending time with her daughter. Her love of Jesus shone through in all that she did.  A lifelong member of Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church, Angie enjoyed singing in the choir and being a member of the church’s United Methodist Women’s Group.

Angie was a true artist. In her early years, she was a musician, playing guitar and singing. She was a dancer and in turn shared that trait with her daughter. She loved to paint in her later years and happily shared her art with friends and family.

Angie is preceded in death by her parents, Keith, and Jan Hill.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Richard Whitfield; daughter, Brooke Whitfield Armstrong, and husband Zachary Scott; Sister, Melody Hill Winters; niece, Caroline Winters Boyette, husband Mitch and great-nieces Emma Gray and Hope Mitchell.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the home of Brooke and Zach Armstrong, 3105 Brogden Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Johnston Hematology & Oncology as well as Johnston’s Home Hospice Care for their exceptional care of our dear “Ang.”  Flowers are acceptable but in lieu of flowers please make contributions to Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church.  Brooke is also raising money on behalf of her mother for pancreatic cancer awareness and early detection.  You can join her team, “Angie’s Angels” for PurpleStride held on April 27 in Raleigh, or make a donation here:  https://secure.pancan.org/site/TR/PurpleStride/PurpleStride?team_id=53946&pg=team&fr_id=2819
