Benson, NC: Mr. Billy Jerry Blackman, age 76, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be held 3:00PM on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Hood’s Grove Baptist Church in Newton Grove. Rev. Kelvin Blackman will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Blackman was born on March 27, 1947 in Johnston County, NC to the late Sebie Talmadge Blackman and Gladys Massengill Blackman Royal. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Cozart Royal and a brother, Charles Edward Blackman. Mr. Blackman retired from Goodyear Tires and was a US Air Force Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed farming, spending times with his family, and his animals.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty Jackson Blackman; children, Jerry Allen Blackman and wife, Amanda of Benson, Christopher Royal Blackman and wife, Jennifer of Benson, Michael Anthony Blackman and wife, Katie of Benson; grandchildren, Harley Faith Blackman, Jaret Allen Blackman, Carson Reese Blackman, Addison Michael Blackman, Ansley Kate Blackman, Allie Marie Blackman; sister, Regina Royal Honeycutt of Salemburg; sister-in-law, Ann Blackman of Benson; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home of Chris and Jennifer Blackman.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Hood’s Grove Baptist Church, c/o Travis Hudson, 3739 Meadowbrook Road, Newton Grove, NC 28366.
