Smithfield – Cathy Massengill Thompson, age 73, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, in the UNC Johnston Health of Smithfield, surrounded by her loved ones. Born, November 5, 1951, in Johnston County, she was a daughter of the late Warren G. Massengill and Callie Barbour Massengill. She is preceded in death by her brother, Gordon Massengill and sister, Judy Jones.

Cathy was a devout Christian lady and she had a passion for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, living each day to serve Him and to serve others. She was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church of Four Oaks, although she and Mel attended church at Tee’s Chapel FWB Church in Brogden. Cathy was also a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Brogden Fire Department. Cathy worked for over 44 years at First Citizens Bank and was a favorite among the customers. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling to the mountains and to the beach with her loving husband Mel. She was known for her sweet disposition and caring heart. Cathy will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with entombment to follow in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years Melton “Mel” Thompson, sister, Betty Rose Parker (Harvey) of Four Oaks, brother, Carlie E. Massengill (Alice) of Clayton, Richard Massengill (Debbie) of Selma, sisters-in-law, Lisa Thompson Peedin (Tony), Quinlan Harward (Tommy) and LaNelle Massengill; brother-in-law, Dennis Jones; as well as many loving nieces, nephews & other family members.
