    Charles Warren Greene, age 71, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, in the SECU Hospice House of Smithfield. Born, February 16, 1952, in Johnston County, he was a son of the late George and Fannie Greene. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Brenda Greene and Peggy Crocker.

    Charles was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Princeton. He was a man of strong faith. He was a hardworking man, working in construction for many years. He was known as the “hotdog man” in the local nursing home because he loved to surprise the residents with hotdogs. Charles was known for his sense of humor. He was always joking around and loved to make people smile. Most of all, he loved his family, he was a devoted husband of 54 years, a father and grandfather. He will be missed by all of his family and many friends.

    Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, December 18, 2023, at 6:00 pm in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 10:00 am in the D.A. Overbee Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 17, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Parrish Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at the home Sunday from 12:00 – 4:00 pm or Monday.

    He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mrs. Patsy Moye Greene, daughters Pamela Smith (Phillip) Lynchburg, Virginia, and Christy Ellis (Don) of Smithfield, son, Charlie Greene (Beth) of Princeton. Grandchildren: Gracie Smith, Ethan Smith, Emma Ellis, Chloe Ellis, Fisher Ellis, Abbie Greene, and Reagan Greene as well as many nieces and nephews.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the SECU Hospice House through Johnston Health Foundation’s Hospice Fund. Make checks payable and mail to Johnston Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1376, Smithfield, NC 27577. Write “Hospice Fund” in the memo line.
