Coats, NC: Mrs. Charlotte Helene Dierolf Balena, age 86, of Hwy 27 East passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services 11:00AM-Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Coats. Dr. Jim Cochran will officiate. Burial will follow in the Coats City Cemetery in Coats.
Mrs. Balena was born on October 9, 1935 in Union County, New Jersey to the late William and Helen Dierolf. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Frank Balena; two infant daughters, Lisa and Susan; a brother, William Dierolf. Mrs. Balena worked several years in retail and Olan Mills Photography, before becoming a caregiver to her sick and aging parents in New Jersey. Upon her return to Coats, she enjoyed providing daycare to her grandchildren, Ryan and Morgan. She was a member of Coats Community Church. Mrs. Balena thoroughly enjoyed reading, word search books, and spoiling her grandchildren.
Surviving include her son, Frank Balena and wife, Maria of Zebulon; daughter, Roberta Messer and husband, Mike of Coats; grandchildren, Brittany Chestnut and husband, Bradley, Courtney Barefoot and husband, Johnathan; Ryan Messer, Morgan Messer, and Sara Kirby; great-grandchildren, Adaleigh Chestnut and Luke Barefoot; niece, Evelyn Dierolf and nephew, Robert Dierolf.
The family will receive friends 10:00AM-10:45AM, Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats, NC and other times at the home of Ryan and Morgan, 1188 Delma Grimes Road Coats, NC 27521.
