Clara Mae Creech Morris – age 91, passed from this earthly life to be eternally with her King and Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2024, in her home surrounded by family.   Born, January 22, 1933, in Wilson’s Mills, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Haywood (Sam) and Nancy Creech.  She was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 5 brothers as well as her son Mark Morris.  She was a longtime and faithful member of Selma Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she taught Sunday School and occasionally played piano. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 60 years.

She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to many.  She loved cooking, sewing, gardening and visiting with her friends and family.  She had a passion for music and taught herself to play piano.  She spent many hours at local nursing homes playing and singing songs with a gospel message for residents.

She met the love of her life in Selma who happened to be visiting from Fort Bragg.  They eventually married in Greenville SC, and over the course of his military career (both the Army and later in the Air Force) she faithfully followed him.  First to Charleston, SC then Honolulu, HI and then to Laredo, TX.  He served a tour of duty in Vietnam and while deployed she returned to Selma with her children.  After he returned to the US, they moved to Smyrna, TN, where they lived until he retired from military service.  After all that traveling, she informed him that he was taking her back “home”.  They returned to Selma and finally settled in Wilson’s Mills, where they have been since 1971.  

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 17, 2024, in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home, in Selma.  The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm.  Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Ellis Morris, son Karl (Doug) Morris and wife Linda of Pikeville, daughter Patricia Morris of Wilson’s Mills, daughter-in-law, Cathy Morris of Selma, and sister Betty Parker of Cleveland, NC.   She is also survived by her grandchildren Lofton Jackson and wife Briana, Emily Hill, Michelle Sebastian and husband Jay; and great-grandchildren Landon and Colson Hill, Hannah and Allison Forsythe and Benjamin Sebastian.

  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the meals program at Wilson’s Mills Baptist Church, 652 Swift Creek Rd, Smithfield, NC 27577.
