David Carroll Raynor

Birth Date: 08/05/1934
Deceased Date: 04/06/2025
David Carroll Raynor passed away on April 6, 2025. He was born on August 5, 1934, in Sampson County. Carroll was the oldest of six children born to Albert and Gladys Raynor.
While in school, Carroll was known for his shyness and reluctance to speak. In 1957 Carroll was inducted into the Army and was sent to Korea to serve his country. Upon receiving an honorable discharge in 1959, Carroll returned to Sampson County. Less shy after his time in the service, he actively pursued Erma Lee Thain. Erma was his soulmate. They would marry on September 23, 1961, and they would be inseparable for the next 63 years.
Carroll was known by all who knew him as an extraordinarily hard worker. He loved his 38 years working for Warren Farming, but much of his time away from his job was also spent working at his shop at his house, doing yard work or helping others in need of his help. He was always active.
Carroll loved his family. Carroll and Erma had two daughters, Lisa and Julie. They were the lights of his life. He was a devoted loving father to them both and would later be a loving and devoted Papa to his grandchildren.
Carroll is survived by his wife, Erma Thain Raynor; his two daughters, Lisa Sanderson (Sandy) and Julie Bizzell (Terry); his sister Joyce Harrell; and five grandchildren: Grant Sanderson, Garrett Sanderson, Aubrey Williams, Gabriele Rousseau, and Jackson Bizzell.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents: Albert G. Raynor and Gladys Raynor; his brothers: Harold Raynor, Garland Raynor and Dale Raynor; and his sister, Hilda Maynard.
Carroll Raynor was a lifelong devoted member of Pleasant Union Christian Church in Newton Grove and served the church in many capacities over the years. His funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 1:00 pm.
Mr. Carroll will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery of Newton Grove.
Dunn Funeral Home of Newton Grove is honored to serve the family of Mr. Carroll Raynor.
