Donald Lee Harrell

    Donald Lee Harrell, 80, of Mount Olive, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the SECU UNC Hospice Home in Pittsboro, NC, with his loving wife and children at his side.

    Donald loved Jesus and showed his love for Him with his servant’s heart; he would help anyone with anything they needed for free. Whether they needed help with an electrical issue in their home or needed advice. He was always a source of strength and joy to those he met. He was hardworking and believed a job worth doing was worth doing well. He loved the outdoors, and while he could, you would find him tending his garden, farming, and fixing machinery. He was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing, painting, and woodworking.

    He held positions with the State of North Carolina at Cherry Hospital’s Laundry for seventeen and a half years and J.P. Taylor Company. He proudly served his country in the US Army and served a tour in Vietnam. He was in the National Guard for twelve years and was a volunteer firefighter at Jordans Chapel Fire Department for nine years.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert A. and Kathleen A. Harrell.; his siblings, Kenneth Harrell, Charles Harrell, Gordan Allen Harrell, and Janet Bordeaux.; and his nephews, Chris Harrell and Bobby Cottle.

    Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 37 years, Judith Christine Harrell, of the home; Son, Daron Lane Harrell of Goldsboro; his daughter, Donna Lee Harrell of Mt. Olive; Stepdaughter, Amy Christine Whitted of Carrboro; his sisters, Wanda Harrell Smith of Mt. Olive, Erdeen Haire of Portsmouth; Va. Nieces Crystal Smith, Michelle Weaver, Sharon Weeks, Angela Futrell, and Tracy Nugent. Nephews: Allen Harrell, Wesley Harrell, Travis Harrell, Jason Harrell, Freemon Haire, and Franklin Harrell.

    Donald will be laid to rest with full military honors at Goldsboro Veterans Cemetery, Goldsboro, N.C. His graveside service will be held Thursday, April 25th at 10:00 a.m.
