Elva Doris Harrell Darden, 92, of Suttontown, NC, passed away on November 15, 2023, after a fall. Doris was born on August 15, 1931, to Gerthria Harrell and Thelma Westbrook Harrell of Four Oaks, NC.
Following her graduation from Grantham High School, she lived and worked in Goldsboro, NC, before marrying Jerry Morton (Doc) Darden of Suttontown, NC. Doris and Doc had three children, Michael Gene, Janice Elaine, and Jo Ann.
Doris worked side-by-side with Doc on the farm, later taking a position in textile production at Burlington Industries in Mount Olive, NC, while raising their family. She took great joy in baking and decorating cakes of all kinds for family and friends and was renowned for her ten-layer chocolate cake. She was a skilled seamstress who also loved working in her yard, and she was dedicated to her church, Goshen Methodist, and God.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, Doc, her father and mother, Gerthria and Thelma Harrell, and her brothers William (Shorty) and Norwood (Nub) Harrell.
She is survived by her son, Gene Darden (Sandra Clifton), her daughter Janice Williams, and her daughter Jo Ann Darden; her grandchildren Amy Darden (Earl Stone), Michael Darden, Ashley Williams (Jill Williams), Andrew Williams, Emily Williams (Christopher Houston), Anna Feucht (Jonathan Richards), Calla Feucht (Jeff Israel), Chloë Feucht, and Brooke Caddis; her great-grandchildren Jared Stone, Kayleigh Stone, Owen Williams, Olivia Houston, and Blake Williams; and her brother Charles B. Harrell, and sister Linda Harrell Gantt.
Services will be held at Goshen Methodist Church, 2765 Suttontown Road, Newton Grove, NC on November 19, 2023, with visitation at 2 pm and a celebration of her life at 3 pm. Private interment at the Darden family cemetery will follow.
