Dorothy Watkins Creech, 94, a devoted servant of the Lord and beloved matriarch, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
Born in Johnston County on March 21, 1931, to the late Henry and Ora Minshew Watkins, Dorothy lived a life marked by faith, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family, her church, and her community. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 36 years, Arby Thomas Creech; sisters, Estelle White and Kay Whitley; and brothers, Hubert, Jimmy, and Roger Watkins.
Dorothy served faithfully as a bookkeeper for over 44 years with Blue Flame Gas, Petroleum Tanks, and Parrish Body Works. Her professionalism, attention to detail, and quiet strength were hallmarks of her long and respected career.
A steadfast woman of faith, Dorothy’s greatest joy was serving the Lord. A longtime member of Kenly Missionary Baptist Church, she poured her heart into many ministries over the years. She was a nursery worker for more than 25 years, Sunday School director, leader of the GA’s and Acteens, Vacation Bible School director, and active in the Women’s Missionary Union. She also served as the church historian and was a faithful member of the Care Ministry. Notably, she was honored to be the first woman to serve as a Deacon at the church—a role she carried out with humility and grace.
Dorothy’s gentle spirit and caring heart touched countless lives. She was known for her thoughtfulness, often visiting shut-ins, delivering Meals on Wheels, and always offering a listening ear or helping hand. Her legacy of love and service is deeply woven into the lives of those she ministered to and served alongside.
Above all, Dorothy cherished her family. She was a devoted mother and an adoring grandmother who delighted in supporting and nurturing her grandchildren. Her presence was a constant source of encouragement, warmth, and strength to those she loved.
Dorothy leaves behind her daughters, Dianne Creech Tart and husband Bruce of Goldsboro, and Mary Ellen Creech of Kenly; grandchildren, Bryson Tart and fiancée Tiffany, and Regan Tart Jones and husband Carter; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Kenly Funeral Service, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Kenly Cemetery.
Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made in Dorothy’s memory to Kenly Missionary Baptist Church, 1730 NC Hwy. 222 West, Kenly, NC 27542.
Dorothy’s life was a beautiful testimony of faith, love, and selfless service. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
