Eleanor Mears was born in New York at Bellevue Hospital on March 26, 1937, to the late Esther and Jerry Mears. Eleanor, affectionately known as Tiny, was called to her eternal home on Monday, February 12, 2024.

We all know that she was small in stature but had the heart of a giant, so we weren’t surprised that she refused to lie down without a fight. Tiny attended the New York City school system, finishing at Central Commercial High School. Upon graduating, she worked at a furniture store for 2years before starting her career at Bellevue Hospital. During her time at Bellevue, she met her lifelong friend Pearlina Jackson.

After dedicating over 35 years to Bellevue and earning the title of Principal Administrative Associate, she retired to embark on the next phase of her life. Tiny moved to Smithfield, NC following her good friend in 1992 where she gained her extended family. She became a loyal member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Smithfield, NC. She enjoyed watching her extended family grow over the years, she also enjoyed traveling with her best friend Pearl while living their best retirement life.

Back in the day, Ms.Tiny loved to dance and enjoyed cutting a mean rug. She loved bright colors like orange and yellow which matched her warm and bright personality. She liked roses, her favorite season was spring and she loved reading books. Most of all, Tiny loved the Lord and her favorite gospel songs were Jesus Cares and Amazing Grace.

She was preceded in death by her husband the late James Wilson and brother the late Wesley Mears.

She is survived by a host of extended family, church family, and friends. Ms. Eleanor (Tiny) Mears, your infectious smile and warm, pleasing personality will truly be missed.
