Evelyn “Eve” Howell Stephenson

    Evelyn “Eve” Howell Stephenson went to be with her Lord January 5th, 2024. She was the daughter of Willie Dee Howell and Myra Hill Howell of Smithfield, NC. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Ronnie Douglas Stephenson of Raleigh, NC and her brother, Willie Dee “Billy” Howell, Jr. of Smithfield, NC.

    Surviving her daughter, Heather Stephenson Darling, husband Pat and grandchildren Lilly and Collin Darling all of Raleigh. Eve is also survived by sister-in-law Dee Howell of Smithfield, Glenda Hales of Wilmington, Phyllis Mitchell of Smithfield, Bonnie Morgan and husband Charles Morgan of Little River, SC and brother-in-law, Felton Stephenson and wife Betty of Irmo, SC. Surviving nephews are Jody Howell of Knightdale, Barry Hales and wife Leslie of Wilmington, Todd Mitchell and wife Tammi of Florida, Brad Mitchell and wife Jami of Arkansas, Scott Reeder and wife Jennifer of Smithfield, Jon Stephenson and wife Elyse of Smithfield, and Jeffrey Stephenson of Florida.

    Eve lived in Johnston County until 2010, when she and her husband moved to Raleigh. She was a graduate of Smithfield High School and University of North Carolina Greensboro. She did additional studies at North Carolina State University. She began her teaching career at Clayton Elementary School followed by Smithfield Junior High School. She then served as a counselor with the Johnston County Mental Health Center. After being a homemaker for several years, she was the founding principal of Johnston Christian Academy in Smithfield. Eve was a past member of the Smithfield Junior Women’s Club and an active volunteer with numerous charitable organizations. She and her huband were members of Westwood Baptist Church in Cary, NC.

    A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home, Selma, NC. Visitation will follow the service.
