Gary C. “Chip” Hamilton, Jr.

    November 2, 1963  –  April 20, 2024

    Mr. Gary Cuthral “Chip” Hamilton, Jr., 60, of Dunn passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

    Chip was born in Harnett County on November 2, 1963, to Gary Cuthral Hamilton, Sr. and the late Jessie Suggs Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ginger Whittenton, and father-in-law, Harvey Allen.

    Chip graduated from Erwin High School in 1982. He worked with the NC Department of Correction for 19 years. Chip became a Master Mason on July 25, 1995, and was a member of Palymra Lodge 147 of Dunn where he served as Master in 2002. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Wilmington. He crossed the hot sands on November 18, 1995. After that, he quickly joined the Dunn Clowns where he became known as “Cowboy,” directing the unit from 2018 – 2020. Chip was a member and Past President of South Atlantic Shrine Clown Association from 1999-2000, was a member of Sudan Ritualistic Cast, and was a member of Newbern Court 145 Royal Order of Jesters and founding member and director of the Sudan River Rats. He also was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose No. 827 in Dunn.

    A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Antioch Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church by Rev. Wesley Hamilton. Burial will follow in Erwin Memorial Park Cemetery.

    Chip is survived by his wife of 38 years, Michele Allen Hamilton; sons, Gary Cuthral “Clint” Hamilton, III and Sabrina Sheffield, and Houston Allen Hamilton and Kayleigh Trickey; granddaughter, Nova Ferelith Hamilton; sister, Jill Hamilton Grantham; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home.
