Gary Stephen Parker, 79, passed away on Friday January 12, 2024 at PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Rocky Mount. Also known as “Joe,” he was born in Whitehall, NY on January 8, 1945 to the late Fred and Violet (Provost) Parker. In addition to his father and mother, he is also preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Gary served in the US Air Force from 1962-1966 at Vandenberg AFB, and worked as an electrician for most of his life.
Gary was a champion of the underdog and often helped those in need. He was a self-taught musician and once recorded his own album of original songs. He enjoyed fishing and exploring the outdoors, Westerns, pizza with the works, milkshakes, and animals.
Gary is survived by daughter Lisa (Greg) Wood of Saranac, NY, son Jason (Trisha) Parker of Williston, VT, and daughter Jennifer (Doug) Weickum of Clayton, NC. He is also survived by grandchildren Joshua Parker, Lakyn Parker, Desmond Weickum, and Ella Weickum, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
At his request, Gary will be cremated and no services held. Those who wish to honor his memory are encouraged to donate to their local Humane Society or ASPCA in his name.
