Deceased Date: 02/01/2025

James Richard Cox, 72, of Eastover passed away on Saturary, February 1, 2025 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

James was born on January 2, 1953 in Wayne County to the late James Horace Cox and Mildred Cox Sutton.

James was a one of kind man who truly lived up to the definition of the word father. He was strong, loving, brave, and a fighter his entire life. He was never afraid to try something new, which is why if you asked anyone, they would tell you that he always had a new story to tell. He loved many things but throughout his whole life, hunting and fishing were by far his favorite. He had many friends but above all, came the furry one always by his side named Drako. He spent much of his time at Deep Creek Outfitters, where his loved for talking and fishing allowed him to enjoy every second he got to be there, meeting new people, and enjoying the company of others.

James survived and loved by his daughter, Chelsey Cox (Thomas Cashwell) of Fayetteville; sisters, Donna Cox Hood (Ronald) of Grantham, Connie Lane (Stevie) of Mt. Olive; brother, Perry Bizzell Sutton (Tammy) of Suttontown, step-granddaughter, Kaylyn Blythe (Joseph) of Panama City; his special dog and best friend, Drako; and special friends, Deep Creek Outfitters and the Swamp Boys.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all of the kind, compassionate people who have helped James by taking him to doctor’s appointments, bringing him food and looking after him.

A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 12:00 at Hillcrest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Dunn Funeral Home to offset funeral costs are welcome.

The Dunn Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of James Richard Cox.
