    Jimmie Gale Mead, a cherished father, grandfather, and brother, peacefully passed away on February 10, 2024, where he resided in Kenly, NC.at the age of 66. Born on December 4, 1955, in Columbus, IN to Jim Mead and Myrtle L. Rexroat Mead.

    Jimmie’s zest for life was evident through his passions and hobbies. He found solace in fishing, cooking, and working on cars. Jimmie’s kitchen was a hub of creativity and warmth. He delighted in cooking hearty meals for family and friends, infusing each dish with love and flavor. Whether it was a secret barbecue sauce or a comforting casserole, Jimmie’s culinary skills brought people together. His culinary skills were unmatched, and he delighted in indulging in smoked meats, good pizza, and steak. Jimmie had an excellent taste in music, rocking out to bands like AC/DC and John Cougar Melloncamp.

    As an Army Veteran in the 82nd Airborne, Jimmie served his country with honor. His dedication and bravery were admirable, and he took immense pride in his service. One of his proudest accomplishments was winning the World Helicopter Championship in 1982 in Poland as the crew chief. Jimmie dedicated himself to serving his country with unwavering commitment and bravery.

    Jimmie cherished spending time with his loved ones and being outdoors. He adored his children—Christina Mead, Joseph Mead, and Jill Ferrell—and doted on his grandchildren—Nicolai Mead, Tristan Castro, Lee Brown, Alex Andrew, and Skylar Andrew. Jimmie shared a special bond with his brothers—Ed Mead, Charles Mead, and Richard Mead.

    In his free time, Jimmie cheered for his favorite sports team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and eagerly followed their victories. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

    Jimmie was preceded in death by family members: Colleen Mead, Star Mead, Wendy Mead, and Nada Mead. Although he may no longer be with us, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

    Above all, Jimmie knew how to make life fun. His infectious laughter, playful spirit, and knack for turning ordinary moments into adventures left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. He believed that life was meant to be celebrated, and his legacy continues to inspire those who knew him

    Jimmie was cremated on Friday, February 23, 2024. He will be laid to rest with fellow soldiers in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA at a later date. May Jimmie Mead’s soul rest in eternal peace.
