Deceased Date: 05/15/2024

Mrs. Joyce Carolyn Sutton, age 89, of Suttontown, Faison, passed away early Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the SECU Hospice House of Smithfield.

Born on March 31, 1935 to the late Timothy Lee Lassiter and Hedy Elizabeth Rhodes Lassiter, Carolyn was the quintessential Southern Lady. She embodied hospitality, she cared a lot for other people. Carolyn showed her love and compassion by cooking for others, she would help anyone who was in need. Her love for others was especially shown in her love for her grandchildren.

She built a life with her husband, Charlie with a foundation of their love for their church and their family. She enjoyed being outdoors, Gerber daisies being her favorite flower. Carolyn also made sure that her birds were always fed, and loved watching the hummingbirds as they ate. She was an outstanding cook, and was known for her pound cake. As a woman of faith, she attended and served her Lord at Goshen Methodist Church of Newton Grove. Carolyn was known to always have a Diet Pepsi on hand and her Friday morning hair appointment was a must. Christmas time was a significant time for her, as she went all out to decorate.

She had been sick for four long years, but with faith in her heart she maintained her grace and dignity with no complaining. Her strength was admirable.

Carolyn was preceded in death by the love of her life of 44 years, Charlie Sutton; grandson, Matthew Lee Carr; and Sister, Cora Ellen Sutton.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Pamela Sutton of Wilmington and Lynn King (David) of Faison; Grandsons, William Carr (Alicia) of Clinton, Justin King (Stephanie) of Clayton, and Zachary King (Casey) of Faison; Great Grandsons, Colton Carr of Clinton and Deek King of Clayton; sister, Betty Jo Lassiter of Newton Grove; and a special niece, Jo Ellen Naylor (Ken) of Faison.
