Lethel Fay “Speedy” Raynor

    Raleigh, NC: Mr. Lethel Fay “Speedy” Raynor, age 82, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Transitions Hospice House in Raleigh after battling leukemia. Graveside Funeral Services will be 1:00PM-Friday, April 12, 2024 in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove, NC. Rev. Debra Stilley will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.

    Speedy was born on January 6, 1942 in Sampson County, NC to the late Hosea and Ethel Jackson Raynor. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Linda Strickland Raynor; a daughter, Mary Ethel Raynor; his brothers, Eugene and Jerry Raynor; and his sister, Iris Rose Swinson.

    Speedy” graduated from Hobbton High School in 1961. He was a faithful and respected employee at Jesse Jones Sausage Company in Garner for 42 years – retiring in 2004. A former Maintenance Supervisor had a nickname for everyone and his was “Speedy”. You could often hear over the intercom, “Speedy to the shop – Speedy to the shop!” Speedy’s work ethic was exemplary, like no other! After retiring, he spent many hours and traveled many miles visiting former classmates, friends and family. A highlight of his week was visiting friends at Crossroads Ford in Fuquay-Varina every Saturday. He also enjoyed a good yard sale!

    Survivors include his girlfriend, Donnie Jean Yates; special friend and caregiver, Rick Fleming; nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

    Memorial contributions in memory of Lethel Fay “Speedy” Raynor may be made to Hillcrest Cemetery, c/o Ila Hobbs-Chair, 320 Britt Road, Newton Grove, NC 28366.
