Libbie Jean Lee Medlin

    Mrs. Libbie Jean Lee Medlin, age 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Benson Global Methodist Church, located at 205 E. Church Street, Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Billy Olsen. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson.

    Libbie Jean was born in Johnston County on November 3, 1937, to the late Delma and Mattie Lee. She was also preceded in death by her brother, J.E. Lee. She graduated from Benson High School and Aurora College in Illinois. Libbie Jean loved to teach, whether it be Seniors at Garner High School, students at the After School Tutoring Program, or the many that were blessed by her devotional programs and lessons.

    Libbie served her community in mighty ways, being recognized as the 2013 Benson Chamber Volunteer of the Year. She was former Governor of the Opti-Mrs. of North Carolina, first Distinguished President of the Optimist Club of South Johnston, and Worthy Matron of the Millbrook Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She delivered Meals on Wheels, and was involved in the Benson Sharing Group. She loved music and singing in the Elevation Methodist Church choir as well as gardening with her husband. She also loved butterflies, symbolizing for her optimism and hope. Her sweet and kind spirit blessed so many around her.

    Libbie Jean’s greatest pride and joy were her family. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jerry Macon Medlin; daughter, Jeanelle Medlin McCain; son, Jerry Macon Medlin, Jr, and wife Elisa Liss; grandchildren, Will Medlin and Emily Medlin; brother, Lennis Lee and wife, Judy Lee; brothers-in law Tracy Medlin and wife Anna, and Graden Blackman; and many precious nieces and nephews.

    The family will receive friends on Monday, November 6, 2023 from 1:30p.m.-2:45 p.m. at Benson Global Methodist Church fellowship hall, and at other times at the home. The family would like to graciously thank Bobbie DuBois for her loving care of Libbie Jean, and Transitions Hospice for their care during the last six months.
