Pine Level – Marie Garner Sutton, age 96, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024 at UNC Johnston Health. She was born in Johnston County on July 16, 1927 to the late James Oscar Garner and Mary Frances Johnson Garner. In addition to her father and mother, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Roger Nelson Sutton; son, Billy Nelson Sutton; brothers, Ervin Garner, Leslie Garner, Tommie Garner, Millard Garner and a half-brother, Ollie Creech.
The family will receive visitors in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home on Tuesday February 13, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM on Tuesday in the chapel. Burial will follow the service in Price Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Sutton of Pine Level; nephews, Denny Garner and wife Jean of Snow Hill, Jimmy Garner and Thomas Garner both of Pine Level.
She loved her Lord and Savior. Marie lived in Pine Level most of her life. She was a member of Pine Level Missionary Baptist Church for 83 years and was active for many years. She enjoyed sewing, reading the newspaper, talking with friends and a good cup of coffee. She loved her children and friends very much.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Pine Level fire department and police department as well as Selma EMS, the doctors and nurses at UNC Johnston Health and her care givers, Ann Bingham, Amanda Evans, Nan Alphine, and Crystal Whitman.
