    Marvin Eugene “Buddy” Bailey Jr., passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024 at the age of 65. He was born December 3, 1958 in Johnston County, son of the late Rachel Bailey and Marvin Bailey Sr, and step-father Clarence Woodall.

    Buddy graduated from Smithfield-Selma High School and worked with the Johnston County Public Schools System, where he retired with over 25 years of service as Student Information Coordinator.

    Buddy’s true passion in life was music and he shared that passion with so many in the community as a Piano Instructor. For over 40 years, he taught countless students to not just play the piano, but to appreciate the joy and importance of music. Over the last several years he was actively involved in the revitalization of his hometown as a Member of the Selma Planning Board. His positive contributions to the community will undoubtedly be felt for generations to come.

    Buddy is survived by his two sons, Tyler (Taylor) and Andrew (Kelly) Bailey, his sister, Becky (Marvin) Beland, nephews Michael and Jeffrey Beland, loving cousins Sheila and Eileen, his beloved dogs Beau and Alfredo, and numerous friends and students who he cherished with all his heart.

    Buddy’s wishes were to be cremated and the family has chosen to hold a private memorial service. The family encourages all that knew Buddy to celebrate his contributions by remembering him as vibrant and full of life.

    In lieu of flowers, please consider participating in one of Buddy’s favorite activities such as listening to his favorite band, The Carpenters, watching a movie with family and friends, enjoying a meal at PF Chang’s, or taking a trip to his favorite amusement park, Busch Gardens Williamsburg.
