Smithfield – Morgan Daniel “Danny” Langston, age 63, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. He was born on February 7, 1962, in Smithfield to the late Romey Langston, Jr. and Marjorie Dickinson Langston. He is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Ira Bernice Jones, Jr.; brother-in-law, David Bernice Jones; and nephew, Brandon Todd Phillips.
Danny graduated from S.S.S. High School in 1980 and started to work at his parent’s business, Smithfield Farm Equipment in June of that year. He began his career as a shop mechanic and eventually advanced to salesman/owner in March, 1988. In August, 2005, Smithfield Farm Equipment merged with East Coast Equipment and then in October 2018 merged with Quality Equipment, which now has 36 locations throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. As a dedicated John Deere equipment salesman, Danny developed numerous lasting friendships throughout his career, spanning 45 years. He was passionate about agriculture and always eager to serve his customers, some of whom were 3rd generation farmers.
In the winter months, Danny enjoyed quail hunting with his sons, brother and numerous hunting buddies. Traveling from North Carolina to Kansas and Texas. In the summer, he enjoyed spending time with his family at their homes at Kerr Lake and Cape Carteret. Danny also treasured quality time traveling and camping with family and friends, visiting more than 22 states.
Danny is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Tammy Jones Langston; children, Morgan Daniel Langston, Jr., Miranda Langston Oliver (Brandon) and Landon Chase Langston (Megan); grandchildren, Leo Oliver, Kai Oliver, Ivy Oliver, Romey Langston and Adeline Langston, all of Smithfield; and a loving brother, Robert “Peanut” Langston (Tiffany) of Grimesland, NC. His mother-in-law, Lois Jones of Selma; sister-in-law, Shelly Phillips (Larry); brother-in-law, James Jones (Connie) as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Danny is also survived by his devoted English Setter, Frank, who has pointed numerous quail and pheasant for almost 14 years.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Wilson’s Mills Baptist Church, 652 Swift Creek Road, Smithfield, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Langston Family Farm, 1035 Dickinson Road, Smithfield, NC with Rev. Terry Dennis officiating.
